Free Spay Neuter in 23 San Antonio Zip Codes
The City of San Antonio's Animal Care Services' FREE spay neuter grant for 2020 is very popular. Don't wait to make an appointment!
This grant provides FREE spay/neuter for cats and dogs living in these 23 San Antonio zips: 78201, 78202, 78203, 78204, 78207, 78208, 78210, 78211, 78212, 78213, 78214, 78218, 78220, 78221, 78222, 78223, 78224, 78225, 78227, 78228, 78235, 78237 and 78242. Both feral/community and pet cats are eligible.
Dogs and cats must be at least eight weeks old and weigh at least two pounds at the time of surgery. Bring proof of address (driver's license, pay stub, utility bill, etc) on the morning of your pet's appointment.
Pets must be vaccinated for rabies. Rabies vaccines can be given for $5 to $20. If your pet had a rabies shot in the past year, bring the official vaccination certificate signed by a veterinarian.
The San Antonio clinics participating are the Brooks Clinic (run by the San Antonio Humane Society) at 8034 City Base Landing, Pet Shotz (across from the Zoo), The Animal Defense League (ADL), and the San Antonio Humane Society.
The Brooks Spay/Neuter Clinic at 8034 City Base Landing is run by the San Antonio Humane Society. Appointments are Wednesdays and Fridays. This clinic prefers you schedule online. There is an internet kiosk in the lobby to schedule appointments. If you need help with scheduling or don't have a computer, call 210-424-7595. A $10 deposit is required at the time of scheduling for zip code grant appointments at Brooks to confirm and hold your appointment. The $10 will be processed back to the original credit or debit card used to schedule the appointment. Limit of five appointments per household at this clinic. This grant also provides a rabies vaccine and microchip for $7 each plus tax (due at the time of spay/neuter surgery). Bring documentation of your zip code (driver's license, utility bill, etc) when you drop off your pet in the morning. The San Antonio Humane Society at 4804 Fredericksburg Road prefers online appointments. Use this code when scheduling: ZIPFY20FRED. A $10 deposit at scheduling is required for zip code grant appointments to confirm and hold your appointment. The full refund of $10 will be returned to the original credit or debit card after your appointment. A rabies vaccine and microchip are $7 each plus tax (due at the time of surgery). Bring documentation of your zip code (driver's license, utility bill, etc) when dropping off your pet. Missing documentation will result in payment for services.
Call 210-735-1004 to make an appointment at Pet Shotz (across from the Zoo in Brackenridge Park). If you need transportation to and from this clinic, VIA is offering a free one day pass to get to and from PetShotz when participating in this free spay/neuter program. Call VIA Representative Gloria Boysen at 210-362-2761 for information about the free one-day bus pass. This program is only for small caged animals and their owners due to VIA's Comfort and Safety Rule. Make sure to call at least one week before your small pet's spay/neuter appointment.
The Animal Defense League (ADL) requires a $25 deposit to schedule this free surgery. All pets must be vaccinated with DHPP/FVRCP at least 2 weeks before surgery. All of the ADL's rules for using this grant at their clinic are on their website. For an appointment at the ADL, call 210-655-1481 ext. 104 or schedule online.

PLEASE VISIT THE ACS SITE FOR CURRENT INFORMATION AND PROCEDURES.There is also a 2020 San Antonio city grant for free spay/neuter of San Antonio feral cats in ALL SAN ANTONIO ZIP CODES – limit 4 cats per car per day. Feral or community cats not socialized to people must be in humane traps, not in pet carriers. Tips for trapping feral cats. A cat's left ear will be "tipped" to show that they have been sterilized. All San Antonio city residents can borrow humane cat trap(s) from Animal Care Services. The current details are under "Available Resources" section on the Outdoor Cats and TNR page of ACS' website. Feral and Community Cats

As of January 2020, Animal Care Services (ACS) has free spay neuter, ear-tipping, and vaccinations for all San Antonio community cats. The cats receive services at ACS' clinic at 4710 State Highway 151. You must have a ACS Community Cat Program (CCP) voucher for each cat and all cats must be in a wire transport or humane trap. Free Microchips
As of January 2020, the City of San Antonio's Animal Care Services is also offering free microchips to San Antonio dogs an cats. Get your pet microchipped during ACS' regular business hours – no appointment needed! The microchips used include free lifetime registration. Your pet can also be chipped at any offsite ACS Microchip Mania event.
